A Week in the City with Jackie

Last week, the team continued to work hard on the long-term condition priority project, which was determined as our annual priority thanks to the local Stokies sharing their primary health and social care concerns with us.

We created a short survey to understand why you, the people of Stoke-on-Trent, were most concerned for those living with long-term conditions. The survey will help to tell us your stories of living with a long-term health condition and accessing health services and treatment, self-managing, and the impacts on your life.

The Diary of a Projects Officer

Jackie, our Projects Officer, was out in the city promoting our survey on long-term conditions and helping us to gather your thoughts and experiences of living with and managing a long-term health condition.

On a busy Wednesday, Jackie visited the Connect Café drop-in at St. John's Community Church in Abbey Hulton, followed by an open day at Shaw Trust Activity Hub in Hanley, and ended the day at the Stoke-on-Trent Dementia Pathway Event at St. Paul's Church in Longton.

An Open Day at Shaw Trust Activity Hub.

At the open day hosted by Shaw Trust Activity Hub, they showcased the work of the Trust, providing a safe space for ex-offenders and a range of activities for developing new skills and meeting new people. Regional Manager, Karen Porter, walked us through pottery, pictures, and equipment to show the work done through their activity workshops.

Educational Event on the Dementia Pathway.

At St Paul's Church, we met with staff from the Primary Care Network (PCN) and Alzheimer's Society, who spoke about the steps and what to expect through the dementia pathway. After the speakers had finished, they opened up the opportunity for people to talk one-to-one about any questions or worries they had about themselves or members of their families.

Later in the week, we went to speak with a group at Expert Citizens in the Dudson Centre to give an insight into what we do at our local Healthwatch and to share our current priority on long-term conditions.

Thank you to everyone who kindly shared their experiences.

Through these events, we gathered the stories of 35 Stokies living with long-term conditions and 50 of you who completed our survey online.

We will use the collective feedback to inform the commissioners, National Health Service (NHS) leaders, and other decision-makers about supporting those living with long-term conditions.

If you would like to contribute to our long-term condition research and share your story with us, you can complete the survey online or contact us to speak with our team.
