Emergency Alerts Service Test

The UK government will be testing their new Emergency Alerts service this Sunday 23 April 2023 at 3pm.

The Emergency Alerts service will warn you if there is a life-threatening emergency nearby such as severe flooding, fires, or extreme weather.

An alert will be sent to your mobile phone or tablet, advising you on how to stay safe.  The alert scheduled for this Sunday 23 April at 3pm is a test, and you do not need to take any action.

Your device may vibrate, read out the alert and make a loud siren-like sound, even if it is set on silent. If you have a hidden device for your safety, you can opt out from receiving emergency alerts to the device.

To opt out on iPhone:

Search for ‘emergency alerts’ in your settings and turn off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘emergency alerts’.

To opt out on Android:

Search for ‘emergency alerts’ in your settings and turn off ‘severe alerts’ and ‘emergency alerts’. On some devices, you will need to turn off ‘extreme threats’, ‘severe threats’ and ‘show amber alerts’ to opt out of receiving emergency alerts.
